We have self-propelled drilling rigs type URB 2A/2. The drilling capacity of these rigs exceed 100 ms depth, but in the remediation practice the boreholes and wells are less than 35 m deep.

The borehole diameters are between 180-800 mms. The casing of the wells are usually made of Ć63-315 mms PVC, HPE, steel, stainless steel, but we are able to use any other casings according to our partners wishes.

The dimensions of the contamination are investigated by borehole datas, soil and grounwater samples and geologic-hydrogeologic informations we gained during the exploration. We build Ć110-140 mms monitoring wells screened at the groundwater level. By these wells we can monitor the changes in water quality, water level and thickness of free hydrocarbon product swimming on the surface of the water.

After evaluating and processing the datas of exploration our engineering partners make plans of the cleanup and where we have to build the recovery wells. In these wells usually we use dual pump systems: a water- and a skimmer pump. The water pump creates a cone of depression in the groundwater, which has double role: controlling the movement of contaminated groundwater (hydraulic containment) and collecting the free phase floating petroleum HCs to the wells. The HC from the well is pumped by a skimmer pump which has a special screen and an automatic control to avoid pumping water.

Our skimmer pump systems are developed for the automatic and safe pumping of the HCs from the wells. We have two kinds of skimmer systems:

• the skimmer head is able to follow the changes in water level in the well by a servo unit;
• the water level in the recovery well is kept on a certain level by a frequency controller unit.

The skimmer pumps are the patents of Zábrák Ltd. These pumps are manufactured by the firm and are made of high quality materials and imported high-tech parts suitable for the special conditions they works under. The pump heads are built in several sizes and the type of the built-in screens can be changed according to the properties of the skimmed hydrocarbons.

The skimmer pumps can be programmed by computer, they operate in automatic mode, control the fluid levels as well as the filling level of the tanks of the recovered HC (therefore overflow of these tanks is impossible). The pumps are built to be explosion-safe during operation.

The Zábrák skimmer pump systems significantly decrease the possibility of operation stops caused by human failures – thus the efficiency of cleanup increases.

The contaminated groundwater must be cleaned below certain regulatory limits. The water cleaning equipments of the Zábrák Ltd. can be flexible applied to solve this problem. The volatile organic compounds are removed by our air stripper. Operation and maintenance of the stripper is easy due to its special tray-module system. This equipment also has an automatic control unit which supervises the operations of related pumps and the blower of the stripper. The capacity and cleaning effectiveness can be influenced by changing the number of modules and recycling of water. The offgas is cleaned by activated carbon air filters before emitting.

The non-volatile contaminants are removed from the water by activated carbon adsorption. Both the air filters and water cleaner contactors are manufactured by Zábrák Ltd. The saturated carbon beds are transported to licensed partners to handle.

We usually pump the cleaned groundwater back into the soil through injection wells and drains.
